I recently replaced a swinging door in a powder room with a slider. Since this is where most of our guests go to the bathroom, a lock was essential. Being only familiar with those old, tiny, ugly, cheap and unreliable little slot locks I search for a better solution. Watch the video for how it functions, but is does provide a secure lock with a reassuring “click” and is not a rattling pot metal cheapy that makes you think someone will walk in any moments. Two tips: 1) unless you are very handy and precise, let a pro install. The tolerances are tight as the pop out tabs that lock are small… like 1/8 inch each side. 2) once installed the “lie flat” tab that you use to lock can be a little tricky to grab. I solved this easily by using one of those small silicone bumpers you use to keep cabinets from slamming shut. It doesn’t make the latch stick out too far as to interfere with closing the door, but leaves the folding handle easy to grab. See photo.
